Hotel Review – Caption by Hyatt Downtown Chattanooga

Hyatt finally has a hotel in Chattanooga and I just stayed there for a night with my kids. The Caption by Hyatt opened in early April 2026, just a few weeks before we stayed there.

Overall we had a great stay, and I would definitely stay again, but the stay wasn’t perfect.

Booking and Value: 7/10

This hotel is a Category 3 Hyatt meaning the current points price is 9,000 to 15,000 points. Starting May 20, 2026 the points prices will change to 8,000 to 20,000 points per night for Category 3 properties.

The cash rate for our Saturday night stay was around $285 and it was peak pricing for 15,000 points that night.

I chose to use a Category 1-4 Free Night Award for the stay making it completely free and 0 points. As a Globalist, I also got free valet parking ($28 per night) with the free night award.  I also had a 2k Next Stay award from my Hyatt 20 night milestone that can be used at Caption hotels. And this being a new Hyatt, I earned another 500 points for staying. So I ended up earning 2,539 points on a stay that was free (except for my morning latte).

Location: 7/10

The hotel is located in Downtown Chattanooga, but still about a mile away from the tourist sites like the Tennessee Aquarium and the riverfront. The famous historic Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel is just around the corner and we could even see it from our room.

There are lots of restaurants and activities in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. We dinner ate at the brewery across the street the night we arrived and there were several other options for restaurants.

Decor: 7/10

The hotel has a young city vibe. The exterior is white painted brick and the interior is full of vibrant colors and modern furniture.

The lobby has plenty of cushioned seating options, a giant tiled wall welcoming you in the lobby and tons of outlets to charge devices.

There is a lounge space on the rooftop with indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor space is cozy with lots of padded chairs and sofas with plenty of space to get some work done, hang out with friends, or relax and enjoy the view. The outdoor seating is just as comfortable with fabulous views of downtown and Lookout Mountain.

Food: 5/10

The hotel has a rooftop bar and lounge with small bites. We didn’t get a chance to eat or drink in here but the vibe was 10/10.

In the lobby, they have a coffee shop with pastries and drinks. It opens early and closes around 1:30pm.

Their main restaurant, Nomia, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is the location for free Globalist breakfast in the mornings. We had breakfast in the restaurant. We arrived at 6:55am and were seated right away despite the official opening time of 7am. I ordered a smoothie bowl while my kids ordered a waffle and eggs with a side of sausage. Their food came out quickly but my smoothie bowl took forever. We were in a rush trying to get to a swim meet and ultimately I had to get my smoothie bowl to go. The waffle was tasty but a big soggy. The eggs and sausage got two thumbs up from my oldest. I ordered a latte from the coffee shop at breakfast and it was not included with our Globalist benefit.

Room: 4/10

Our room was clean, functional, and very small. I booked a two queen room for the night and we were not upgraded. For one night, the room was completely sufficient, but it would feel a bit cramped if we were staying any longer. There were two queen beds, a small area for storage with one drawer and a refrigerator, and a small chair beside the bed with a side table. The sheets were a little bit scratchy, if I’m being picky. The television was affixed to the wall opposite from the bed with minimal room between the bed and the wall opposite.

The bathroom had a large counter but only one sink. It had a nice large stall shower with a glass door and single use toiletries. The towels were fluffy, soft, and nice.

Hospitality: 6/10

From valet to the front desk to our server at breakfast, everyone was friendly and welcoming. I was recognized as being a Globalist at check in. There was no welcome amenity or drink and no Globalist upgrade.

Family Friendliness: 6/10

The hotel seemed to have more of an adult vibe than a family friendly vibe, but my kids still managed to have fun. There is no pool but there is a “water lounge” on the roof which was more of a hot tub sized pool with a nice view. It is next to the rooftop bar, so if my kids had gone in there and made kid noises on a Saturday evening while people were enjoying cocktails nearby, I don’t think we would have been appreciated at all.

They do have a table tennis table just off of the lobby that my kids played at least three times and absolutely loved. After our recent stay at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines, they are obsessed with ping pong.

Gym: 7/10

Compared to the size of our room, I wasn’t expecting much from the gym, but I was pleasantly surprised. The gym was spacious and well appointed with weights, a treadmill, lots of space, and a Peloton bike. Unfortunately the Peloton bike was not functional as a pedal fell off as soon as I tried to use it. That was extra disappointing knowing the hotel was only a few weeks old.

Final Thoughts

I’m thrilled that there is finally a Hyatt property to stay at in Chattanooga. The location is convenient and easy to get to with plenty of things to do in the immediate neighborhood. As a Category 3 property, it’s very affordable on points and at times it has very affordable cash rates. Our room was cramped but the hotel does have plenty of space dedicated to common areas making it possible to spread out and play a game or socialize outside of the room. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Chattanooga, but I wouldn’t choose this hotel for an extended stay in one room with more than two people.
