I wanted to share our overall itinerary for our recent multi-generational trip to Italy. I flew with my mom who is in her 70s and my two elementary aged kids from Newark (EWR) to Milan Malpensa (MXP) via Air France. We returned from Milan to Chicago O’Hare via Amsterdam on KLM.
We met my brother in Milan and then later flew to meet up with his wife and son in Sicily. We all traveled together from Sicily to Turin. I returned to Milan with our original crew of my mom and kids and we flew back home together.
This itinerary was jam packed and we accomplished a lot and saw a ton, but the first few days were a bit too much moving around.
Day 1: EWR to CDG to MXP on Air France
Day 2: Arrive at MXP. Train to Milan Centrale
Activities: Last Supper Museum, Duomo di Milano, Piazza di Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel II
Lodging: Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale
Day 3: Depart via Frecciarossa from Milan Central to Venice Santa Lucia Stazione.
Wandering around Venice, shopping, Rialto Bridge, mass at St. Mark’s Cathedral.

Day 4: Sunrise Run, packing
More wandering around, shopping, eating, soooo much rain.
Airport water shuttle to Venice Marco Polo Airport with a visit to the Marco Polo Club.
Arrive in Catania.

Day 5: REST DAY. Lattes on the patio, cousin play time, dinner at home.
Day 6: Siracusa and Ortigia, Temple of Apollo, TukTuk ride around the island, and a boat tour around the island and into the sea caves.
Day 7: Taormina. Shopping, eating, custom capri sandals from Il Sandalo Caprese, Greek Theater of Taormina, and drinks at Grand Hotel Timeo.
Day 8: Monti Rossi Adventure Park, Flights from CTA to Turin.

Day 9: 6am sunrise run, Hop-On Hop-Off tour bus with a stop at the National Automobile Museum, Family Photos with Luca from Localgrapher, Dinner at the Mercato Centrale
Day 10: 6am sunrise run, Egypt Museum, delicious gelato from La Romana Dal 1947.
Lots of play time in the Piazza Castello fountains and the playground near Piazza Castello.
Day 11: lazy morning with local pastries and cappuccino from La Costarican Cafe + McDonalds pancakes for the kids. Packing up and Frecciarossa train from Turin Porto Nuovo station to Milan Centrale. Duomo terraces and indoor tour, hanging in the Piazza, dinner at Maio overlooking the Duomo.

Day 12: Super early morning to the airport. LIN to AMS to ORD on KLM and ORD to BNA on Southwest.
